Torched Earth RPG

We've been busy working on a new role-playing game with its own original mechanics. We started doing some playtesting and so far, we like how it feels and flows. Follow the link to the Torched Earth page for more details.
We have decided to make the system available through the Creative Commons license so that once it's published, you are free to use it and hack it in any way with the condition that Attack Dice, LLC is credited as the originator.

Fire&Steel TTRPG is now available!

Our first tabletop roleplaying game, Fire&Steel - Adventures In The Land Of The Dead Sorcerer-Witch, is up on DriveThruRPG as a pay-what-you-want PDF download. It is a Sword and Sorcery style game with an easy ruleset if you're already familiar with D&D. The Print-on-Demand, 40-page booklet, will be available as soon as the printers approve the files. We are very excited here at Attack Dice for this product as both John and I started our gaming hobby with the now so popular Dungeons & Dragons game.

Work on the second edition of Dungeon Attack! is coming along great and we are close to a finished revision of the rules. The logo featured here is not necessarily a the final one but a nice homage to the D&D 2nd edition logo. I don't think we would get in trouble for using it.
We will be posting the revised rules soon for you all to try them out and give us some feedback.

Mass Outbreak Rule

Here is a cool rules addition to your games of When Zombies Attack! Use of this rule will slightly increase the length of your games. Thank you to Christy Wilson and Alex Duenas for coming up with it.

MASS OUTBREAK
In addition to the normal rules for an Outbreak, whenever an outbreak occurs with 3 or more zombie attack dice, every player also brings back into play a dead zombie from their graveyard, if they have one. The zombie attack die is placed in each player's zombie mob to be rolled on their next turn.

WZA! Scoring System

11/10/2014

Here is a simple scoring system you can use for your WZA! games that a fan came up with. Thank you Steven Rogers for this cool idea.

"Simply put, each player receives 10 points for each zombie that he/she kills by the end of the round (R.I.P.).  In addition, anyone who lives through a round of play receives 50 points.  The winner of each round of play (i.e. the player who scored the most points) gets to choose which version of the rules will be used for the following round.  So an evening of play often switches back and forth between the standard rules and the Zombie Arena alternative rules.  It makes no difference, the scoring is the same.  The first player to 500 wins!  Of course, you can set any value for the winner."

Boss Monster Dice

Having a hard time fighting the Boss Monster Dice?

Here is a quick house rule to use in your Dungeon Attack! games. When rolling the Boss Monster Dice, if a Skull/Defeated Monster symbol comes up on the first roll, you get a free re-roll in an attempt to defeat it. Another Skull on the re-roll and the Boss Monster Die is defeated. With this rule adventurers without a special ability to re-roll or who do not have a magical item, still have a chance to defeat the Boss Monster Die. Even with this rule each monster die may only be re-rolled once per turn.

Thank you Hector DeJesus for coming up with this simple, ingenious rule. We will be using this rule from now on in our games.

True Cooperative Game

3/13/2014

For a true cooperative Dungeon Attack! game, pool everybody's gold after you've cleared the last dungeon level. Remember that magic items are worth 3 gold each and artifacts are worth 5 gold. The total is used to measure your group's success and as a benchmark for future games.

Also, if you like, use the chart below to measure your adventurer's success.

 50+  Gold . . . Excellent, you've hit the mother lode.
16-49 Gold . . . No bad, there are plenty of more dungeons to explore.
0-15 Gold . . . Better luck next time, you've hit the welfare dungeon.

The chart above assumes you are using between 14 and 20 monster dice for each level and playing the standard three level dungeon.

Dungeon Attack! FAQ

2/21/2014

Below are questions submitted by customers who have played Dungeon Attack! and need clarification. Thank you for your submissions.

1.  Can you use multiple magic items during the same turn?
Yes, but once used they must be recharged by taking an action. To take an action the Adventurer must be free from Monster Dice.

2.  Once the level is over, does everything reset? Wounds, magic items, etc...
After each level Adventurers heal one HIT and all Magic Items recharge.

3.  If you're knocked out, are you dead? ie, are you out of the game. So if it's a 2 player game, the other person wins?
No. If an Adventurer is Knocked Out, another Adventurer may heal a HIT by use of a Magical Item or Special Ability, at which point the Adventurer will return to play Wounded. Additionally, when the group advances to the next level, all Adventurers heal one HIT so that Knocked Out Adventurers will return back to play Wounded.

4. What happens to the Defeated Monsters in my pile if my Adventurer is Knocked Out?
The Defeated Monsters in your pile are removed from the game and come back into play on the next level.

5. When rolling the Boss Monster Dice the rules say to ignore the first roll since they can only be killed on a reroll. What happens on an Assist or when Busting the Door, where does the Boss Monster go?
Ignored dice are treated as a blank result and always remain with the original Adventurer. On an Assist, the dice returns back to the Adventurer you helped. When Busting the Door, the Boss dice are kept by the Adventurer that busted the door.

6. The way it looks to me is that the person who busts the door on a given level has the potential to get the most treasure. Now the rules say you play the game with 3 LVL’s as the standard but you can play with up to 4 people. So it appears to me that only 3 out of the 4 players get to but the door on a standard game. And as I said it looks to me is that the person who busts the door on a given level has the potential to get the most treasure so one person can potential get screwed.
First, don't forget that each Adventurer has a Combat Rating (CR), this is the maximum number of Defeated Monsters you can keep per roll. So even if you roll 14 monster dice and defeat 5 of them, if your CR is 2, you only keep two of them, the other three are ignored.
Also, players are allowed to Bust the Door again during their turn as long as there are no Monster Dice facing them and there are Monster Dice in the Dungeon Room (middle of the table). Think of this as another room within the same level.
Finally, the Assist action allows players to roll another player's Monster Dice as long as they are free from any Monster Dice.
Together, these three rules balances any type of hording of dice other players may attempt.

7. Can a 'knocked out' player utilize a special ability or magic item/artifact on themselves to be revived?
No. Only other active players can revive the knocked out character unless a special ability says otherwise.

8. Can a special ability ONLY be used when a player is "free to make and action". Some actions give explicit times when an ability can/must be used, others do not specify when.
No. Special abilities may be used before rolling the dice unless stated otherwise on the card. The only exception I can think of is with the Crusading Cleric's ability to heal which may only be used when free of monsters.

9. When a player is "lost and wandering" in the labyrinth they cannot receive help from other players, how do they find the party, and can other players find them?
If you are referring to using the Labyrinth Event Die, the player may only roll the Labyrinth die on their turn and nothing else. If the Labyrinth symbol is rolled again the player is free and rejoins the group.

Solo Dungeon

The Attack Dice System is very conducive to solitaire play. For Dungeon Attack! no rule additions or changes are necessary. Just pick an adventurer and start rolling. The Mighty Warrior and the Sneaky Thief are the best for this mode. Keep track of how much gold you come out with and compare it to other players or previous attempts.

Peasant Attack!

2/20/2014

In this version of Dungeon Attack! basically everyone plays a peasant (no Adventurer Cards necessary, just x16 dice and some tokens) with an Attack Rating of 1 (Max number of kills per roll) and no special abilities. Very challenging game where cooperation is the key to success.
